Vietnam is a country situated in Southeast Asia, bordering with China, Laos, and Cambodia. The capital city of Vietnam is Hanoi while the most populous city is Ho Chi Minh City, also known as Saigon.
Vietnam is a popular travel destination, with a growing number of international travelers visiting each year. Some of the most popular attractions are the cities of Hanoi, Hoi An and Ho Chi Minh City, the national parks and beaches.
As of 2017, citizens of 81 countries are eligible to apply for the Vietnam eVisa, an electronic travel authorization that eliminates the need of going in person to an embassy or consulate and submitting a paper application.
The eVisa simplifies the whole process of obtaining a travel permit for Vietnam, making it easy for travelers to apply from wherever they are in the world, as long as they have access to an internet connection.
In addition to this, there are currently 24 countries, mostly in Europe and Asia, that are allowed to enter Vietnam visa-free for short periods between 14 and 90 days, depending on nationality.
Vietnam Visa for Romania Nationals
Romanian nationals are among the ones eligible to apply for a Vietnam eVisa. They can do so from the comfort of their own home or wherever in the world.
The process of obtaining an eVisa is very simple, quick and easy. Travelers from Romania will simply need to fill in a Vietnam eVisa application form, submit all the necessary documentation and answer a few questions.
The eVisa allows a single entry to Vietnam for up to 30 days for a series of different reasons:
- For tourism
- To visit friends or relatives
- To invest in Vietnamese enterprise
- For labor or short employment
- Journalism endeavors
- Study or academic purposes
- Official visits or summits
An extension of the eVisa is not possible while in Vietnam. Romanian citizens who wish to stay longer in Vietnam will need to exit the country before the eVisa expires and apply for a new visa. They can then re-enter the country right away, as soon as they receive the eVisa.
It is not necessary to go back to the home country. Travelers can exit the country through one for the land crossings and go to China, Laos or Cambodia to apply for their eVisa:
It is important to note that overstaying the validity of the visa can lead to fines so travelers should take note of the validity of their visa and make sure to exit the country on time.
Applying for a Vietnam Visa From Romania
Here are the steps to apply for a Vietnam visa from Romania:
- Fill out the online application
- Answer health and security-related questions
- Complete the payment of the visa fee with a credit or debit card
- Provide an up-to-date email address
In the application form, travelers will also need to provide the following type of information:
- Personal details: full name, date of birth, address

Romanian citizens that have two passports must ensure they use the same one when filling out the application form and when traveling to Vietnam.
To avoid delays or rejection of the eVisa, travelers should double-check the accuracy of the information provided. The eVisa will be sent via email as a PDF and will need to be printed.
Entry Requirements for Romanian Travelers
It is fairly easy to obtain the Vietnam eVisa and there are not many visa requirements that Romanian travelers need to meet. All they need to have is a Romanian passport valid for at least six months from the date of entry in Vietnam and provide the following documentation:
- A digital copy of the biographical page of the passport
- A digital passport-style photograph
In some cases, specific health requirements may apply, such as proof of vaccination. This, however, can vary depending on the length and purpose of the trip and on health history. Romanian citizens should consult a doctor before their trip to find out if they need any vaccinations.
Travelers will need to present the printed copy of the eVisa together with the passport when entering Vietnam.
Other Vietnam Visas Available for Romanian Citizens
In addition to the eVisa, Romanian travelers can also obtain a visa on arrival. This type of visa can be obtained directly at the airport. However, travelers will still need to fill out an online application to obtain a Letter of Approval. The visa on arrival can only be obtained by providing the Letter of Approval at the entry port, together with two passport-size photos.
After applying online, it generally takes around 2 business days to obtain the Letter of Approval. Furthermore, travelers will need to queue at the immigration office at the entry port to obtain the stamp on their passport that will grant them access to Vietnam.
The easier way to enter Vietnam remains to apply for the eVisa since it will be sent to the applicants before departure.
If Romanian citizens have a connecting flight in one of the international airports located in Vietnam, then they can also apply for a transit visa. Some special conditions and terms need to be met, however.
